Our pediatricians pride themselves on detecting mental and behavioral health problems in children because our team understands that for a child to have optimal overall well-being, they need to be mentally, emotionally and behaviorally healthy.

Behavioral Health Screenings in Kids

The NIH reports that one in five children and teens will have a diagnosable mental health disorder. With this high prevalence rate, finding a pediatrician who provides behavioral health screenings and services is essential. We offer complete behavioral health assessments and care to children and teens throughout the Clarksburg and Montgomery Village, MD, communities.

The screening tools that we have can be used to help diagnose,

  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Conduct disorders
  • Anxiety
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Deafness
  • Hearing problems
  • Intellectual disabilities

What does a behavioral screening tool determine?

A behavioral screening or assessment helps us determine if possible behavioral concerns or development issues are present. These screenings are not used to diagnose a condition alone; however, performing these screenings and diagnosing and treating behavioral problems early on can make a big difference in a child’s life. Early intervention is key to helping your child adopt valuable skills and coping mechanisms to help them get behavioral issues under control to improve their quality of life and well-being.

When are behavioral screenings recommended?

Our Clarksburg and Montgomery Village, MD, pediatricians perform developmental and behavioral screenings on all children during their well-child visits at nine months, 18 months and 30 months; however, if a parent comes to us with concerns about certain behavioral issues in their child, we can also perform a behavioral screening and determine next steps such as having your child evaluated by a mental health professional.
